Ratan Tata passes away aged 86

Ratan Naval Tata, honorary chairman of Tata Sons and a national icon, passed away at the age of 86. He breathed his last at around 11 pm on Wednesday. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai and was suffering from age-related diseases.

Ratan Tata led the Tata Group from March 1991 to December 2012. He took the Tata Group to new heights. He transformed the Tata Group into a company manufacturing everything from salt to software. Under his leadership, the Tata Group acquired many big companies. The Tata Group is today one of the largest industrial houses in the country.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka was the first to give information about his death. He wrote on social media at 11:24 pm, ‘The ticking of the clock has stopped. Titan is no more. Ratan Tata was a symbol of honesty, moral leadership and philanthropy.’

His body was taken from the hospital to his home at around 2 am. Tata will be cremated with state honors. His body will reach Mumbai’s National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) shortly. People will be able to see him for the last time here till 4 pm.

There was news of Ratan Tata, being admitted to the ICU on October 7 as well. However, he himself denied it and said that he is fine and that he had reached the hospital for routine checkup.
