Inter-ministerial central team visits Nainital to assess the damage caused during this monsoon season

The inter-ministerial central team of the Government of India arrived on a tour to assess the damage caused in this monsoon season in Nainital district on Tuesday. The team held a meeting with the officials to review the damage caused in the district during the monsoon season and obtained detailed information.
In the meeting held at Haldwani Circuit House, District Magistrate Vandana welcomed the team and presented a detailed account of the damage caused by the disaster in the district. She informed that the district has suffered a loss of about ₹ 443.42 crores during the monsoon season, in which the disaster reduction item has suffered a loss of ₹ 285 crores and various departmental assets have suffered a loss of about ₹ 158 crores.
Mainly Public Works Department, Irrigation, Energy, Rural Construction Department, Drinking Water and Education Department are the major departments which have suffered more damage. The District Magistrate informed about the damage caused to various important roads. She informed the central team about the important road of the district which connects the hilly districts, Haldwani Bhimtal Almora road which was getting closed at the end of the year due to the serious problem of mountain erosion near Ranibagh motor bridge, and also told the need for a permanent solution to the problem of various roads which were getting closed at the end of the year.
The District Magistrate presented a statement through a presentation about the damage caused to various hilly areas of the district including Gaulapar, Chorgalia, Lalkuan, Haldwani, Ranibagh, Ramnagar and other places of the district due to river and water logging. Along with this, the team was also informed about the land erosion in various rivers like Gaula, Kosi, Nandhaur etc. and the condition of the affected villages and city areas.
After the meeting, the central team conducted a field inspection of the disaster affected areas along with the District Officer and officials of other departments. The team went to Indira Gandhi Stadium Gaulapar, Gola Bridge, Sukhi River, Chorgalia areas and assessed the damage themselves.
