Ganga flowing at danger levels in Haridwar and Rishikesh; alert issued

Monsoon in Uttarakhand is showing shades of 2013. The rivers are in spate due to the torrential rains that have been going on for several hours. The Central Water Commission has warned that the river Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Rishikesh and Haridwar. Due to the rains, the water level of the Ganges is increasing continuously. For this reason an alert has been issued. Along with the Ganga, Gori, Sharda, Alaknanda, Mandakini and Nandakini rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Many roads including Badrinath, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Almora Highway are closed in the state due to falling debris from the hills.

Due to incessant rains in the mountains and plains, the water level of the Ganges increased in Rishikesh. River Ganga started flowing above the danger mark. The water level of Ganga was recorded at 340.50 meters till Saturday evening. Central Water Commission employees said that the river Ganga was flowing below the warning level 339.50 meters above the danger level 340.50. All 15 gates of Pashulok Barrage have been opened due to the flow of silt and wooden stoppers in the river Ganga. At the same time, production has come to a standstill due to non-availability of water in the Chila Shakti Canal. Every situation is being monitored by UJVNL (Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam). Almost all the Ganga Ghats of Parmarth Niketan Swargashram, Triveni and Laxman Jhula have been submerged. Mayakund, Chandeshwar Nagar have been flooded with water.

Rishikesh-Srinagar highway closed due to landslide

Normal life has been disrupted due to heavy rains. National Highway-58 (Rishikesh-Srinagar Highway) near Byasi in Tehri Garhwal has been closed due to landslide. Not only this, due to the landslide, vehicles got stuck near Ghat police station on Pithoragarh National Highway. At the same time, the Badrinath National Highway between Gulabkoti and Kaudiya in Chamoli district has been closed. Tanakpur-Pithoragarh highway is also closed due to debris.

Appeal to people not to go to the river bank

Tthe district administration in Muzaffarnagar has asked people to refrain from going to the banks of the river in view of the rising water level of river Ganga. The officers provided this information. Sub-Collector Jayendra Kumar said that after 3,75,000 cusecs of water was released from a barrage in Haridwar, people have been appealed not to go near the river as a precaution. Officials said that the water level of the river is rising here.
