Indian squad announced for World T20 2026

The BCCI has announced the 15-member Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian team will be led by Suryakumar Yadav in the World Cup. The Indian squad selected for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, largely comprises the same players who recently played in the 5-match home T20 series against South Africa. Shubman Gill and Jitesh Sharma have been dropped. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has made a comeback, while Axar Patel has been appointed vice-captain. The Indian team will begin its T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on February 7.

BCCI’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the team for the T20 World Cup at a press conference in Mumbai. The T20 World Cup in India could be Suryakumar Yadav’s last as the captain of the Indian T20 team.

20 teams divided into 4 groups

For the first time, 20 teams are participating in the T20 World Cup 2026. These teams have been divided into four groups. The World Cup matches will be played at 5 venues in India and 3 in Sri Lanka. Group A includes India, Pakistan, Netherlands, Namibia, and the USA, while Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman. Group C includes England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Italy, while Group D has South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada.
