MS Dhoni to return as skipper for CSK in IPL 2025

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will once again be seen captaining Chennai Super Kings. CSK said on Thursday that the command of the team has been handed over to Dhoni.

Dhoni will captain the team after about 683 days. He was last seen captaining Chennai in IPL 2023.

Chennai Super Kings won the 2023 IPL title. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the team played the final match against Gujarat Titans. CSK’s regular captain Rituraj Gaikwad has been injured. For this reason, CSK took this decision in the middle of IPL 2025.

CSK, captained by Gaikwad, have lost four out of five matches this season. 43-year-old Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2024. After this, the franchise handed over the captaincy to Gaikwad. He also handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022, but he took back the captaincy midway through the season after the team’s poor results. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK has also won five IPL titles and two Champions League trophies in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.
