Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden win Australian Open 2024 men’s doubles title

Indian tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna along with his partner Matt Ebden won the Men’s Doubles title. In the final match of Australian Open 2024, the pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden defeated Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden defeated the Italian duo 7-6, 7-5. In this way Rohan Bopanna has become the oldest player to win the Grand Slam.

Before Rohan Bopanna, the oldest player to win a Grand Slam was Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands. Jean Julien Rojer won the Australian Open title at the age of 40 years and 9 months. This was also Bopanna’s first Grand Slam title.

In the final match, the pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden faced tough competition from Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Vavassori. The first set went to tie breaker. The pair of Bopanna and Ebdeon did not lose even a single game in the tie breaker. This final match lasted for 1 hour and 39 minutes. But ultimately the pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden won the title.

Earlier, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden had defeated Tomas Machac and Zhang Zhizhen in the semi-finals. Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden defeated Tomas Machac and Zhang Zhizhen 6-3, 3-6 and 7-6 (10-7) in three sets. The icing on the cake for the 43 year old Bopanna is that he will be crowned the new world number-1 in men’s doubles when the rankings are updated on Monday.
