Beach Handball Competition set to make waves at the 38th National Games in Tehri

The much-awaited Beach Handball Competition under the 38th National Games is set to begin tomorrow at the scenic Sand Beach in Shivpuri, Tehri. Featuring eight teams each in the men’s and women’s categories, the game promises thrilling matches over the next five days, culminating in the finals on January 31.
Beach handball offers an exciting variation of traditional handball, with notable differences in gameplay and structure. Unlike the seven-member teams in traditional handball (one goalkeeper and six court players), beach handball teams consist of 10 players each, providing more rotational depth. The playing ground is smaller than that of traditional handball, creating an intense, fast-paced dynamic. Additionally, beach handball players compete without shoes, adding to the unique challenge and flair of the sport.
The participating teams are divided into two pools for both men’s and women’s categories:
- Men’s Pool A: SSCB, Telangana, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand
- Men’s Pool B: Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh
- Women’s Pool A: Haryana, Maharashtra, Assam, Uttarakhand
- Women’s Pool B: Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Goa, West Bengal
League matches are scheduled between 27 to 29 January, with the top teams advancing to the semifinals on 30 January. The game will then enwrap itself in the final matches on 31 January where the best teams will vie for gold medals.
The Beach Handball Competition at Shivpuri create an exciting conjunction of sportsmanship and scenic beauty, making it one of the memorable highlight of the 38th National Games.
