The Indian Air Force will operate the Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi) and Gauchar (Chamoli) airstrips. While the Pithoragarh airport will be operated by the Airport Authority of India. The government is also going to expand the Pithoragarh airport, which will cost Rs 450 crore.
The state government is emphasizing on expanding air services in the border districts. This will meet the strategic needs as well as the needs of the local residents. In this sequence, the state government has given in-principle consent to hand over the operation of the airstrips located in Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi) and Gauchar (Chamoli) to the Indian Air Force.
Similarly, in view of the increasing air services at Pithoragarh airport, the state government has agreed in principle to operate it through the Airport Authority of India. For this, an MoU has been agreed between the state government and the Airport Authority of India. The government is also going to expand the Pithoragarh airport, which will cost around Rs 450 crore. Along with this, the government is preparing to build a one kilometer long airstrip here to start air service from Gunji to Adi Kailash area, technical support will also be provided by the Air Force in the construction of this airstrip.
