Two day Red alert issued in Uttarakhand for heavy rains

The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warnings in the state on Monday and Tuesday. Red alert has been issued for Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Nainital districts and Orange alert for Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri districts.

Instructions to the district collectors to be on high alert

After warning of heavy to very heavy (excessive) rains in the state by the Meteorological Department, the government has instructed all the district collectors to be on high alert. Districts have also been asked to be prepared to deal with every situation of disaster.

CM also stranded due to bad weather

The CM also had to postpone the visit to disaster affected areas of Pithoragarh district due to the rain since Sunday morning in Garsain region and fog at high places. The helicopter which went to pick up CM from Dehradun could not land in Bharadisain due to fog. After this CM left by car for Gauchar. From there he reached Dehradun in the evening by helicopter.

212 roads closed in the state due to rain

212 roads have been closed due to incessant rains in the state. It consists of three NHs, eight state highways and 12 district routes.

104 crores needed to fix broken roads

104 crore will be needed to bring the rain-damaged roads in the state to the former condition. The Public Works Department, in a report sent to the disaster management department, said that, so far 1747 roads have been damaged in the state.

Three houses broken in Munsiyari

In Kumaon, heavy rains continue to cause damage in some areas of the hill districts. On Sunday morning, three houses collapsed in landslides in Galla Patharkot, Sainrathi, Kotuda and Sainar Pyankti villages in Munsiyari, while 11 houses have suffered significant damage.

The Meteorological Department says that there will be rains in Uttarakhand for the next three to four days. During this period, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the plains areas like Dehradun, Haridwar as well as the mountainous districts. Due to this there will be possibility of landslides in the mountains and increase in water in the drains.

According to Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, till August 17, almost all the districts of the state can get heavy to heavy rains. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast in some places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Nainital, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri and Tehri districts.
