Rupay card launched in UAE
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched RuPay card in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) market, which can be purchased from this digital payment card in India in many shops and business establishments. The United Arab Emirates became the first country in West Asia to adopt the Indian system of electronic payments. India has already started running RuPay cards in Singapore and Bhutan.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ravish Kumar tweeted, “RuPay Card was officially introduced in UAE in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi bringing India and UAE economies closer to each other.” UAE is the first country in the Gulf to have adopted the Indian RuPay Card. A number of UAE companies have spoken of accepting RuPay payments.
Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri earlier in the week said, “The UAE is the largest and attractive business center in the region. Most people of the Indian community living in this region live here (in the UAE), the most Indian tourists come here and most trade is with India. With the region becoming the first country to accept RuPay cards, we hope that this will benefit tourism, business and the Indian community, all of them.”
The bilateral trade of the two countries stood at around $ 60 billion in 2018. PM Modi arrived here from Paris on Friday in order to visit three countries of France, UAE and Bahrain.
