WTC Final 2023: Australia defeats India by 209 runs

The Indian cricket team has faced defeat in the ICC World Test Championship final for the second time in a row. Team India faced defeat against Australia at The Oval in England. Australia had scored 469 runs in the first innings, in response to which the entire Indian team was bundled out for 296 runs. After a huge lead of 173 runs, Australia declared the innings by scoring 270 runs for 8 wickets. The Indian team collapsed in the second innings for 234 runs and Australia won the match by a huge margin of 209 runs and captured the trophy.

The batting of the Indian team failed miserably in this match. No batsman could play a big innings from the team. If we got to see two century innings from Australia, then not a single Indian batsman could do this work. Except Ajinkya Rahane, no big name could work. He scored 89 in the first innings and 46 in the second. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had scored 13 and 14 runs in the first innings and got 43 and 49 runs in the second innings. Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill also disappointing performances.

Bowling first after winning the toss, the Indian team achieved initial success in the first innings but could not run through the middle order. Travis Head scored 163 while Steve Smith played an inning of 121 to take the score to 469 in the first innings. Alex Carey also played an inning of 48 runs. In the second innings too, Carey scored 66 runs. After a big lead of 173 runs in the first innings, Australia scored 270 runs for 8 wickets and set a target of 444 runs.
