Even a place at Madame Tussauds fails to bring a smile on Grumpy Cat’s face

Grumpy Cat has snagged bragging rights to becoming the first cat to be immortalized by Madame Tussauds. “This is truly an honor…” said a distinctly unimpressed Grumpy Cat. “I hate it.” The three-year-old cat will be immortalised in wax after her “animatronic with five different movements” is unveiled at the San Francisco museum later this year.

The Grumpy Cat statue will also make stops at five other cities across the US, ‘CNET’ reported. The wax figure will reportedly purr, close her eyes and fall asleep. A video, posted to YouTube, shows how Tardar Sauce aka Grumpy Cat sat, stood and stared as the Madame Tussauds team measured her for the creation of the museum’s “first animatronic cat.”

The unimpressed kitty, with nearly 300,000 Twitter followers, shot to fame in 2012 after her photo was posted on Reddit. Real name is Tardar Sauce.

Later came a series of memes, a best-selling book, stuffed animals, a coffee drink and a gig as a spokes cat for Friskies. She has won awards from MSNBC, Buzzfeed and Friskies; stars in a line of merchandise, a book and the documentary “Lil Bub & Friendz” with fellow celebrity cat Lil Bub.

In step with Grumpy Cat’s digital celebrity, her figure will be an animatronic with five different movements. The animatronic will be unveiled at Madame Tussauds’ San Francisco location later this year in typically aloof fashion by Grumpy Cat herself. After a short stay at Madame Tussauds San Francisco, the animatronic will tour the remaining five Madame Tussauds attractions across the US.
