Iran blank India 3-0 in FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers

India suffered a loss at the hands of Asian power house in football- Iran in the qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Bengaluru. It was a clinical display from Iran as they went on the attack against the hosts right from the start. They did not give India a chance and they tested their defence on a consistent basis. Iran opened their account in the 29th minute and India held on in the first half.

Iran striker Sardar Azmoun put the tourists ahead in the 29th minute by scoring the first goal. Midfielder Andranik Teymourian doubled the lead in the early second half before Mehdi Taromi scored another goal to help his side further extend their lead. The visiting side, coached by Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, could have scored more had they utilised the chances that came their way.

On the other hand, the Indians did not have even a clear look at the Iran goal as the visitors completely dominated the match. The Indians could string together very few threatening moves and they had to desperately defend their citadel for most part of the match. This was the third straight defeat for team India while Iran moved to the top position with today’s victory.
