Decision to reopen colleges in Uttarakhand could be taken in next cabinet meeting

The decision to re-open degree colleges in Uttarakhand can be taken on November 18 in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat. Under the UGC guidelines in the first phase, colleges will be opened only for practicals. However, private college operators are demanding the opening of all classes.

Schools have been opened for students of 10th and 12th in the state, but the decision has not been made to open other higher educational institutions including degree colleges. Now in the November Guidelines, the Central Government has left the decision of the states to open higher educational institutions.

In this sequence, the state government is also preparing to open all higher education institutions including degree colleges. However, the final decision on this will be in the cabinet meeting. Significantly, the Uttarakhand government has opened board classes.

According to Dr. PK Pathak, Joint Director, Higher Education Regional Office, in the UGC guidelines, instead of opening colleges for all classes, only students of practical subjects are allowed to attend college in the first phase. In this order, colleges will be opened in Uttarakhand. He said that the rest of the classes will be taught online at present.
