Uttarakhand: Migrants returning to hills, but negligible testing being done

Thousands of migrants are returning every day in the mountainous districts of Uttarakhand. Despite this, the Corona test sampling is not increasing. The situation is that the average number of samples sent from the nine hill districts of the state to the investigation is coming down to less than two per day.

If this is not rectified, the challenges may increase in the coming days. Corona’s first patient in the state was revealed on 15 March. After this, positive patients are being searched continuously.

Most of the more than ten thousand samples taken so far in the state are from Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and US Nagar. This is because most of the cases of corona were reported in these districts.

Now as the migrants are reaching the hills in large numbers, there is a need to increase the testing in the mountainous districts. As compared to the plains, the sampling averages in the hill districts of Uttarakhand is negligible.

A total of 749 samples from the nine hill districts have been sent for investigation so far. Out of this, 676 samples have been reported so far. In such a situation, during the last two months, a daily average of less than two sample testing per day is revealed.

Anoop Nautiyal Nautiyal, founder of the Social Development for Communities Foundation, says that a large number of expatriates are returning from different states in the state, so there is a need to increase sampling. If sampling is not increased, further problems may increase.

The corona infection was confirmed on May 10 in the youth who returned to Uttarkashi from Surat in Gujarat, then the future challenge of the hills started to emerge through it. Not just Uttarkashi, it is a warning for all green zone districts. However, there was no particular uneasiness about this in the district administration concerned. That is why only 21 samples were sent from nine districts on Monday, whereas in the list released on Monday, more than six thousand people were registered in Uttarakhand.
