Weather takes a turn in Nainital, heavy hail accompanied by rain
In Nainital, the weather changed its course on Friday afternoon and it started raining heavily. Meanwhile, heavy hailstorm started and the roads were covered with a white sheet of hailstones.
Due to rain and hailstorm, local people including tourists were forced to halt at various places and they had to search for a safe place. During this, there was a long queue of vehicles on the roads.
It was sunny in the lake town on Friday morning amidst light clouds, in the afternoon the weather suddenly changed and it started raining heavily. Due to rain and hailstorm, the seasonal channels falling into the lake came in spate and the roads were waterlogged. The roads got jammed due to waterlogging.
Earlier on Thursday also, in the afternoon in Nainital, drizzling rain along with hail had drenched the area. Five mm of rain has been recorded on Thursday.
Suddenly thick clouds encamped after noon on Thursday and it started raining. The rain which started at around 3.30 pm continued till 4.15 pm. Meanwhile, it also rained hail for some time.
Due to the change in the weather, the cold also increased. The water level of Naini lake remains below five feet. At the same time, due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the weather in Uttarakhand is changing continuously these days. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in the hilly areas of the state and snowfall on the peaks on Friday. Along with this, an orange alert has been issued regarding hailstorm and thunderstorm in the low-lying areas.
