Water restrictions announced for Sydney amidst severe drought

Extensive water restrictions for the first time in a decade were announced on Tuesday in Australia’s record breaking drought in Sydney. The New South Wales government said the water level in the Sydney area’s reservoirs has been continuously declining since the 1940s and restrictions will be imposed from next week.

South Australia’s Water Minister Melinda Pavey said in a statement: “The record in New South Wales is drought-prone. Water restrictions in Sydney mean that people of New South Wales will contribute to water conservation. “
