5 dead; 21 injured in Texas shootout

On Saturday, 5 people were killed and 21 injured in a shootout between Midland and Odessa in Texas, USA. Police chased and killed the attacker near the Synergy Film Theater in Midland. At the moment, he has not been identified. Odessa city officials gave this information.

According to police, the attacker got on the bike and hijacked the US Postal Department’s car. After this, he started firing on the people around him. Two law enforcement officers were also injured in this. Odessa City Police Chief Michael Gerke was quoted as saying that a Texas officer was also shot at when he tried to stop the attacker.

‘No shooter active at the moment’

The police initially suspected that two people were involved in the shootout. According to the police – “we thought that one of the attackers was in a gold / white Toyota, while the other one was driving a stolen US Postal Service van”. In a Facebook post, the Midland Police Department said that there is currently no active shooter in the area. All agencies are investigating reports of possible suspects.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the state of Texas and the Department of Public Safety are trying to provide all help to the affected as needed.

29 people were killed in a shootout in August

Last month, there was a shootout in Texas, killing 29 people, including the attacker. According to official figures, in the shootout in 2017, there have been around 40,000 deaths in the US. This figure is the highest in 50 years.
