Amazon rain forest burning at an alarming rate

Scientists world over are fretting over the record rate at which the Amazon rain forest is burning. The lungs of the Earth are burning which a cause of concern for the planet grappling with global warming. The National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the space agency of Brazil, recorded the highest number of wildfires in 2019.

Images and videos on social media show giant plumes of smoke rising from the greenery. Experts claim deforestation is the main reason for the surging number of fires in Brazil. The European Union’s satellite program, Copernicus, released a map showing smoke from the fires spreading all along Brazil to the east Atlantic coast. The smoke has covered nearly half of the country.
