Mark Zukerberg breaks silence on Data Leak case; says several strict actions taken

Breaking silence over Facebook data leak, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared an update via Facebook. Zuckerberg wrote a post on Facebook and acknowledged data leak by Facebook. In his Facebook post Zuckerberg said that the company has taken several steps in this matter and can take strict action to prevent such cases from happening in the future.

Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook that “it is our responsibility to keep people’s data safe, if we fail in it, then it is our fault. He said that we had taken many steps before this, although many mistakes were made but work is being done to prevent it. He wrote that I had started Facebook, if anything happens to it, then its responsibility is mine. We will keep trying to learn from our mistakes, we will once again win your trust.”

In his Facebook post, Zuckerberg explained the whole case through a timeline. Zuckerberg wrote that in 2007 we updated many things in Facebook. It included many apps like Friends’ Birthday’s, Address Book, Maps. For this, we took some information from the Facebook user, which included information such as who their friends were.

In 2013, Cambridge University researcher Alexander Kogan created a personal quiz app. Some 3 million people installed the app, some personal data was also used. Not only did these three lakh people share the data, but also many of their friends.

Zuckerberg wrote that in 2014 we completely changed apps and data sharing methods, after which if another app asks for data of a user, then he will have to first ask the user. But in 2015 a newspaper report revealed that Kogan shared this data with the Cambridge Analytica Company. That was against the rules. After that we immediately banned Cogan’s application from Facebook. We asked to delete all the users’ data from Kogan and Cambridge Analytica and also asked them to give their certificate proof for the same.
