‘Deltacron’: Scientists identify new strain of Corona in Cyprus

The corona variant (Omicron variant) is currently causing havoc in the world and now another new variant of Corona has appeared in Cyprus. According to the local news of Cyprus, the genetic background of this new variant of Corona is also similar to that of the Delta variant, hence it has been named Deltacron. According to the news of Cyprus mail, Dr. Leondios Kostrikis, Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Virology at the University of Cyprus, said that some mutations of the new variants are also similar to Omicron variants. In Cyprus, in 25 samples of corona infected, it was found that 10 of these mutations were from Omicron. Of the 25 people from whom samples were taken, 11 were hospitalized while 14 were living in isolation at home.

Mutations of both delta and omicron are present in the new variant

Kostrikis said that those who are reaching the hospital due to corona, there is a possibility of more cases of new variants. He said that this new variant has mutations of both delta and omicron. He said that at present we are doing research on it and later it will be seen how dangerous the new variant is. Kostrikis has sent the genome sequence of the new variant to GISAID, the international organization that tracks the virus. A few days earlier, another new variant of the corona was identified in France. It was named IHU. According to French scientists, this variant was identified in some people from Cameroon. 46 mutations were observed in this variant.
