16 year old kills self after poll on Instagram

A shocking case has emerged on how can the world of social media waste a person’s life.

In Malaysia, a 16-year-old girl asked her followers on an Instagram account in her poll, whether she should die or not. 69 percent of people advised the girl that she should die.

The eastern Malaysia Police said that the girl wrote a message while sharing a photo of her on the photo sharing app, it is very important, please help me in the choice of life and death. When most people voted for death, she committed suicide.

After the girl’s death, a lawyer said that those who voted for death should be prosecuted for suicides.

Penang’s lawyer and MP Ramkarpal Singh said, would that girl be alive today if the people had discouraged her to die at the Instagram account. “Had people done this, would she have considered the advice of seeking a professional?”

Did social media influence her decision to take his life? Suicide is a crime in the country but inciting of suicide also comes under the purview of crime.

Malaysia’s Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said that this tragic event shows the need to consider mental health at the national level. “I am really worried about the mental health of the youth. This is a national issue which should be taken seriously.”
