Over 100 fighters involved to douse fire in London’s Mandrin Oriental Hotel

Twenty fire engines and 120 firefighters and officers have been called to a blaze on the roof of a hotel in Knightsbridge, central London, the London Fire Brigade said on Wednesday. The cause of the blaze was not yet known, it added. A Reuters reporter said smoke was visible coming from the five-star Mandarin Oriental hotel.

Fire crew from Chelsea, Kensington, Hammersmith, Battersea and other surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
Police said the hotel was being evacuated and it was not yet known whether there had been any injuries.
Firefighters were called to the fire at 1455 GMT. Contacted by AFP, the Mandarin Oriental press service could not be reached. Roads were closed off at Scotch Corner and Hyde Park Corner, busy junctions near the hotel — an Edwardian-style building that opened its doors in 1902 and was bought by Mandarin Oriental in 1996.
