WHO study reveals long working hours could be fatal

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), thousands of people are dying every year due to the habit of working long hours all over the world. The WHO has said that due to the corona virus pandemic, these figures may also increase in the coming days. A study has been done on those who work for a long time. According to this, in 2016, 745,000 people who worked for long hours lost their lives to heart disease. These figures were almost 30 percent higher than in the year 2000.

Maria Neira, director of WHO’s Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health, said, “Working 55 hours or more every week is a serious health hazard. We are doing this study to give more protection to workers. “Studies by the WHO and the International Labor Organization showed that most of the effected (72%) were male and were middle-aged or older.

Overall, this study is based on data from 194 countries. According to this, working 55 hours or more a week has a 35% higher risk of stroke and a 17% higher risk of dying from heart disease compared to 35-40 hours. This study has been done during 2000-2016. So there is no data of people affected by corona in it. The first study in the world has been published in the Environment International Journal about the ‘impact on the life of working long hours’.
