History of earth day
Celebrating Earth Day was started in 1970. The day was first started by US Senator Gerald Nelson as an environmental education. A year earlier, in 1969, there was a tragedy due to an oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. Many people were hurt in this accident and decided to work towards environmental protection. After this, on April 22, on the call of Nelson, about 20 million Americans took part in the first event of Earth Day.
