Donald Trump impeached for second time as President

For the first time in American history, a President faced impeachment process for the second time. This is the reason why the difficulties of the incumbent President Donald Trump have increased after the capital building violence. Sseveral members have supported the notion to impeach him again. The US House of Representatives has passed the second impeachment motion against President Trump. While 232 votes were cast in its favor, the opposition had 197 votes.

This proposal has also received the support of ten Republican Party MPs. After this the proposal will now be put in the Senate on 19 January. Many members of the caucus want this process to be started as soon as possible. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has appointed 9 impeachment managers who will debate Trump’s case. This impeachment process has also been accelerated because Vice-President Mike Pence has refused to remove Trump from his post which he could have under the 25th Amendment of the Constitution following the Capitol Building incident.

What is 25th Amendment of the Constitution in USA

The 25th Amendment of the US Constitution gives the Vice-President the right to remove power from the office of the President with the approval of the Cabinet and two-thirds majority of the House if the President fails to discharge his duties and responsibilities. Several other MPs, including Speaker of the House of Representatives, had also appealed to Mike Pence to remove Trump using this option, which Pence declined. Only after this the process of impeachment of Trump has been accelerated.

Many US Republican and Democrat senators recognize that current President Donald Trump has become a threat to American democracy. Therefore, it is only right to remove him from the post as soon as possible. Most MPs also blame Trump for the capital building riots. Meanwhile, outgoing President Donald Trump, reacting to the current process, said he was not threatened by the 25th amendment. He has also said that freedom of expression in the country had never posed such a big threat as it has now.

However Mike Pence has also made it clear that Joe Biden has been elected by the people of the country and the current President does not have the right to challenge it. Biden is about to take the oath as the new President on 20 January. If the Senate imposes their seal of conviction then in such a case, Trump will be dismissed. If he is found guilty, then he will have to undergo another vote to be removed from his post.
