State government to provide subsidy upto Rs 10 lakh for setting up Food Processing Unit
To increase the income of farmer-horticulture, the government will focus on the food processing sector. On Friday, Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Subodh Uniyal reviewed the Prime Minister’s Micro Food Industry-Upgradation Scheme in the auditorium located in the Vidhan Sabha. Under this scheme, the government will give subsidy up to Rs 10 lakh for setting up a food processing unit. After the meeting, the Agriculture Minister told the media that the Central Government will contribute 90 percent in this scheme. In this, the common crop of the farmer will be developed as a food product. For this, a crop and its associated products have been fixed for each district. In five years, 1591 micro-food products will be developed in the state. The Director of Horticulture has been made the state level nodal officer of the scheme.
This is how the government will help:
1. Food Processing: The government will give 35 percent of the total project and a maximum subsidy of up to Rs 10 lakh for setting up a unit related to food processing. Self-help groups, cooperative societies and farmer production organizations (FPOs) will be given priority in this. Farmers can convert their crops into food products locally.
2. Infrastructure: Government will provide financial assistance up to 35 percent of the project cost. Approval from the central government will be taken on the proposal for grant of more than Rs 10 lakh.
3.Marketing: If the annual turnover of a production is up to five crore rupees then marketing will be arranged for it. The selected agency will assist the state nodal agency for preparing DPR for marketing and branding up to five lakh rupees.
