Plane crashes in Nepal with 72 onboard
A 72-seater passenger plane coming from Kathmandu crashed at Nepal’s Pokhara International Airport. So far 68 people have lost their lives in the accident. Rescue work is on. Currently the airport is closed. The reason for the accident is yet to be known. A total of 10 foreign nationals were also involved in the aircraft, of which five were from India. There is no news of survival of any of them.
Giving information about the accident, Yeti Airlines spokesperson Sudarshan Bartaula said that a total of 68 passengers and four crew members were on board the Yeti Airlines aircraft. It also includes 15 foreign nationals including two children. The plane crashed between the old airport and Pokhara International Airport.
Constitution of a five-member committee for investigation
A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the accident. After the accident, a day of national mourning has been declared in Nepal.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said Yeti Airlines 9N-ANC ATR-72 aircraft had taken off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 10.33 am. Pokhara is a famous tourist destination in this Himalayan country. According to the airport authority, there were 53 Nepalese, 5 Indians, 4 Russians, 2 Koreans, 1 each Irish, Argentinian and French nationals on board the flight.
