WHO seeks more documents from Bharat Biotech for emergency approval of Covaxin

The WHO has demanded additional documents amid government efforts to get Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin included in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Emergency Use Listing (EUL). The World Health Organization has said that the company will have to give more information in order to list the covicin vaccine for emergency use. A document released on the WHO website states that Bharat Biotech submitted the Expression of Interest (EOI) on 19 April. In this regard, it will have to provide more information.

According to the document, a meeting in this regard is expected to be held in May-June 2021. The WHO has stated that if the product offered for evaluation meets the criteria for listing, its results will be published widely. The duration of the emergency use indexing process depends on the quality of the data presented by the vaccine-producing company and the data that meets the WHO criteria, the institution states.

Covaxin has not been included in the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) of the World Health Organization (WHO).
