Doctors, owing allegiance to the Provincial Medical and Health Services (PMHS),  wore black bands to protest the failure of the state government to implement Direct Assured Career Progression (DACP) Scheme for serving government doctors.

The doctors working in the government hospitals and the directorate wore black bands as they went about discharging their duties.

“The Uttarakhand Government has implemented the demand but only for the new doctors, who joined the government service in 2015. All the senior doctors, who struggled for the implementation of the provision, were left out,” said Dr Naresh Napalchayal, Secretary of PMHS.

He said the doctors would continue to wear black bands till the time the government paid heed to their one-point charter of demand.

“We may even be forced to intensify our stir by boycotting duties but all this will be done without hurting the patients,” he added.
