Results from 2 studies show Covid-19 immunity may not last long

There have been two studies in two countries on the novel coronavirus. The results of both are almost the same. These results are going to break the hope of getting relief from Corona in the coming days. The first study has been done in Spain and the second in Britain. It has been revealed in both studies that patients recovering from Covid-19 lose their immunity quickly. That is, there is a risk of their being infected again.

A very large study was done in Spain. Samples of about 70 thousand people were investigated. Of those people who had received antibodies in the beginning, 14 percent of those did not have antibodies detected later. After the study, it is understood that the immunity of the corona remains for a short time in the body. Antibodies were found in only 5.2% of the total people involved in the study, while Corona infection was much more widespread in Spain.

In the Spanish study it was also found that antibodies were quickly lost in those who were without symptoms after being infected with corona. After the new study, the expectations of herd immunity have suffered a setback.

Second study was done at King’s College London, UK. Immune responses of 90 patients were analyzed. In the study, it was found that 3 weeks after the symptoms appeared, the antibodies were very high in the patient, but then they started to decrease.

Among those who had abundant antibodies in their body, only 17 percent had the same level of immunity after three months. But in the long run, these immunities have reduced significantly and in many cases immunity has not been found.

A study conducted in Britain also revealed that between 2 and 8.5 per cent of patients infected with corona do not develop corona antibodies. At the same time, after the result of both these studies, the question has also arisen that how long will the corona vaccine be able to keep people safe? Doctor Katie Doores of King’s College London says that a single dose of vaccine will not be enough. There will be a need to give vaccine again and again.

A doctor who is involved in the study of Spain, said – ‘Immunity can be incomplete. Immunity can also be temporary. It may occur for a short time and may even disappear. We should all protect ourselves and protect other people as well.’
