World’s longest smuggling tunnel found on US-Mexico border

US officials claim to have traced the world’s longest tunnel dug for smuggling. This tunnel, built on the southwestern border connecting the US to Mexico, is about 1300 meters long and smugglers also had a track of small rails to carry the drug on a large scale.
Although small tunnels are common for smuggling along the US-Mexico border, US officials said Wednesday that the tunnel is very modern and special.

The tunnel, dug into the city of San Diego, California, about three-quarters of a mile from Mexico’s industrial area of Tijuana, was made to reflect the modernity of the tunnel, along with the rail tracks laid in it, as well as a lift for entry, to overcome the lack of oxygen, it can be fitted with air ventilation facility, high voltage electric cable and panel and drainage system designed to prevent water filling.

The mouth of this tunnel was discovered by Mexico Police in August last year. After this, the US authorities did a comprehensive investigation for six months and prepared the map and then it was made public on Wednesday. According to America’s Border Patrol Operations Supervisor Lance LeNoir, this tunnel has a length of over 14 football fields.

However, no drugs have been recovered from inside it and no one has been arrested yet. Also, it has not yet been confirmed where the exit route is from this tunnel in America. It is believed to be moving to the Industrial Area in San Diego.

Exposes shortcomings on Trump’s border wall project

The tunnel has also exposed the shortcomings of US President Donald Trump’s ambitious ‘border wall’ scheme. In order to prevent movement through tunnels on the Mexico border, the foundation of the wall is to be laid to several feet inside the ground in this border wall project, but this tunnel has been dug in a depth of about 21 meters i.e. this tunnel begins deeper than the border wall.
