5.8 magnitude Earthquake jolts Andaman & Nicobar Islands

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake on the island was at a depth of 69 km. Earlier, on July 9, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Campbell Bay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The earthquake occurred at 7:39 pm in Campbell Bay, with a depth of 70 km.

Three earthquakes have hit these islands so far this year. Earlier in March there was an earthquake in the Nicobar region. Its intensity was 5. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km. Whereas last year, 22 earthquakes ranging from 3.8 to 5 magnitude occurred in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during 24 hours. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands lie in a high-seismic zone and are prone to frequent earthquakes.
