Storm brewing in Bay of Bengal could bring rains in many states around Diwali

Just before Diwali, another cyclonic storm is ready to knock in the country. With the arrival of a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, the weather pattern can once again change in many states of the country. According to the IMD, the Meteorological Department, a cyclonic storm is forming in the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to hit the coast on Sunday. The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of further intensification of cyclonic storm over the Bay of West-central Bengal by late Sunday night. If the tropical storm turns into a cyclone as predicted, it will be called ‘Sitrang’, the name suggested by Thailand. The effect of this storm can be seen from Bengal to Odisha.

What will be the wind speed during cyclonic storm?

The Meteorological Department is monitoring the weather system forming over North Andaman Sea, which is likely to concentrate under pressure by Saturday, with wind speed up to 50 kmph. The weather system was a cyclonic circulation on Wednesday and is likely to form into a low pressure area over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal by today i.e. Thursday. It is believed that the wind speed can be 45-55 kmph during the cyclonic storm.

Second storm of this year to form over Bay of Bengal

If a cyclonic storm occurs, it will be the second cyclonic storm to form over the Bay of Bengal this year. Earlier in the beginning of May, there was a storm named Asani. At the same time, Odisha has seen at least three major storms in 2021. The IMD advised fishermen not to venture into West Central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal from October 22 and stay off Odisha coast from October 23.

At the same time, IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that only after the formation of a low pressure area, accurate prediction can be made on the intensity and direction of the storm. For the exact information about how much and where and how the cyclonic storm will have an impact, one will have to wait till October 22. The Meteorological Department has not predicted rain in Bengal and Odisha before 23 October. However, there is a possibility of rain in the coastal districts of West Bengal and Odisha from 23 October.
