Mild tremor jolts Meghalaya, Western Khasi Hills

A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the northeastern states on Sunday morning, an official said.

There were no reports of any casualty or damage, the official said.

The tremor was felt at 7.27 a.m. with an epicentre determined at Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hill district, an official from the regional seismological centre said here.
Many people also tweeted about the earthquake even though the tremor hit early in the morning. States of Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur are considered sixth major earthquake-prone area in the world. An earthquake of 6.8 had rocked West Bengal, Bihar and Assam last August, which had its epicentre in Myanmar. The same month, tremors with its epicentre in Haryana was felt in parts of Delhi which had of 3.7 magnitude.
