Old 500 and 1000 notes worth 4.58 lakh were found stuffed in a few polythene bags and left in a forest at Roshnabad near Haridwar on Sunday. The bags were found by some village women who had gone to collect firewood in the jungle. Police officials who have taken the notes in their custody said that they had informed Income Tax officials about the recovery on Sunday itself, but “nobody from the IT department has come yet to inquire about the matter.”

The police is still clueless about the source of the bundle of notes. While there were rumours that the notes found in the forest were of the value of 25 lakh, the amount actually recovered was  4.58 lakh only, he confirmed.
