Portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri open today

The corridors of the Corona lockdown were opened for the pilgrimage of the world-famous Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham with Vedic chanting and prayers on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Sunday. The doors of Gangotri Dham opened at 12:35 P.M and Yamunotri doors at 12:41P.M. However, devotees could not reach on today’s special occasion due to the lockdown.

At seven o’clock in the morning, the Ganga Doli of Goddess Ganga left for Gangotri from the Bhairav ​​temple in the Bhairav ​​valley and reached Gangotri Dham at exactly eight thirty. Where the priests opened the portals of the temple following rituals and Vedic chanting. Gangotri Temple Committee President Suresh Semwal, Secretary Deepak Semwal, Co-Secretary Rajesh Samewal, along with Teerth Purohit and Parganas Magistrate Bhatwadi Devendra Singh Negi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamal Singh Panwar and security personnel were present on the occasion.

On the other hand, Goddess Yamuna’s Doli, headed by Shani Dev Maharaj  left for Yamunotri Dham at 8:05 AM which reached Yamunotri Dham at 11 AM from Kharsali during her winter stay. After worship,the portals of the dham were opened for the devotees.

This time only 21 people were allowed by the administration on the occasion of Yamunotri Dham’s opening due to the lockdown in the country due to the coronavirus. Everyone also took care of social distancing during this period. The lockdown in the country will be till May 3 after which the government will take a decision on it. Due to this, devotees of the country and abroad could not reach Yamunotri Dham on this occasion of Kapat inauguration.
