Uttarakhand likely to get three new Nagar Nigam
The continuous migration from the villages of Uttarakhand has been an Achilles heel for the state government. Preparations for upgradation of municipal bodies for the residents of villages should provide better facilities near the village as well as employment opportunities. In this episode, work is being done to make Uttarkashi, Srinagar and Pithoragarh Nagar Palika’s as Nagar Nigam. The number of Municipal Corporations will increase to 11 with their creation. Not only that, some Nagar Panchayat can be upgraded to Nagar Palika. It is obvious that some of the other villages will be made part of elevated bodies in the expansion of their limits.
The horrors of the continuous migration from the villages can be estimated from the fact that 1702 villages have been deserted since the formation of the state. There are large number of villages in which the number of people is worth counting on fingers. It is clear in the report of the migratory commission that people are leaving villages to urban areas in search of better facilities and employment. In view of this, the state government has decided to take the road from the nearby municipalities in the wake of the halt to migration from the villages.
For this, the municipal bodies will be upgraded. Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik points out that the rapid development of cities can be seen with the view to curb migration. According to Cabinet Minister Kaushik, people are migrating from rural areas to urban areas. If 15-20 villages are kept in the center to make a city inclusive of facilities, then the people of the villages will get facilities there. Also, employment opportunities will also be created.
He said that in this episode, it was a time to make Srinagar a municipal corporation, but it had to be avoided due to certain reasons. He said that besides Srinagar, soon Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh municipal councils will be increased on the path to making the Municipal Corporation. Homework has been started for this. Some municipal panchayats will also be elevated in municipal councils. Authorities have also been instructed to do homework in this regard. All the municipalities which will be upgraded will be developed from the perspective of basic facilities including infrastructure, education, health.
