Dam breaks in Maharashtra after heavy rains

The number of deaths due to the continuous rains in Maharashtra is constantly increasing. Now the heavy rains damaged Tiware dam in Ratnagiri, which resulted in floods in nearby seven villages. 19 people are reported missing in the accident. The number of dead is expected to increase. So far, six bodies have been recovered, which have been sent for postmortem. It is said that due to heavy rains the water level in the dam had increased very much, due to which the dam was broken late last night.

According to the local administration, nearly a dozen houses close to the dam collapsed completely. In addition to local administration, police and volunteers, NDRF teams have been involved in relief and rescue operations. At the same time, due to heavy rains in the Waghi Budruk village of Washim district , four children were swept in the flood, two were saved and two were still missing.

The city that never sleeps Mumbai, which is also the economic capital of the country has come to a standstill due to rains. Due to water logging in many parts of Mumbai, flood situation has arisen. For the first time since 2005, the highest rainfall occurred in 24 hours in Mumbai. The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warnings in many places in Mumbai. Alert also has been issued by High Tide. People have been advised to leave the house after seeing weather updates.

On Tuesday, a total of 35 people died in rain-related accidents in different parts of the state including Pune and Mumbai. In Kurar villag in Mumbai, a wall collapsed on the slopes built on a hill trail that killed 21 people and more than 75 people were injured. A wall collapsed in Mumbai’s Kalyan, killing three people while one person was injured.
