Hong Kong moving towards ending local transmission of Corona

Not a single new case of Covid-19 infection came to light on Saturday, a day after restrictions were imposed in Hong Kong to prevent the Coronavirus panemic. According to a South China Morning Post newspaper report, the total figure rose to 1044 in the last one week, with some deaths including four cases.

No new cases were reported on Saturday for the 20th consecutive day of local infection. Health experts had previously stated that Hong Kong could be considered local infection-free if a new case of infection did not emerge even after 28 days or two incubation cycles of coronavirus.

Residents here could visit gyms, beauty parlors, bars, restaurants, and other public places on Friday after Hong Kong city authoritiesto partially allowed eight types of businesses to open with conditions. All these businesses were closed for more than a month.

According to China’s National Health Commission, as of Friday, 836 untreated cases, including 63 people infected abroad, are still under medical supervision. The commission said that by Friday, one case of corona virus infection from abroad and 15 new cases without symptoms have been reported due to domestic infection. The local health commission reported that most cases without symptoms have come from the earliest centers of the coronavirus – Hubei province and its capital Wuhan where not a single case has been confirmed in the past 35 days.

Life has become normal in the province since the lockdown was lifted and offices, businesses and factories opened since last month. The Commission said that after the arrival of 13 new untreated cases in the province on Friday, a total of 628 such cases are still under medical supervision. There were no new cases of deaths in China on Friday and the total number of deaths is 4,633 while there are a total of 82,887 cases of infection, out of which 208 patients are still undergoing treatment.
