Ski and Snowboard Championship to be held in Auli from February 23 to 26

The National Skiing Championship will now be organized from February 23 to 26 at Auli, the world famous skiing destination of Chamoli district.

Earlier the date of this championship was proposed from February 2 to 5. At the same time, the Uttarakhand team has been announced to participate in the Khelo India Games competition to be held in Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir) from February 8 to 10. The team will reach Gulmarg on February 7.

The championship had to be postponed due to the Joshimath crisis

Chief Executive Officer Adventure Tourism Colonel Ashwani Pundir said that due to the land subsidence crisis in Joshimath, the National Skiing Championship to be held in Auli from February 2 to 5 had to be postponed. Now the new date of the championship has been fixed from 23 to 26 February. For this, he has also held a meeting with the technical team including ITBP in Auli.

Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj’s media in-charge Nishith Saklani told that the government is committed to organize the National Skiing Championship in Auli. From the point of view of tourism, it is necessary to spread the message of a safe Auli in the country and abroad. On the other hand, Secretary of Ski and Snow Board Association, Praveen Sharma told that Uttarakhand team is fully prepared for better performance in Khelo India.

After the land subsidence cases increased in Joshimath, the operation of Joshimath-Auli ropeway was closed due to security reasons. There have been cracks in the ground around tower number one to three of this 4.15 km long ropeway with ten towers. However, there is no danger to the ropeway from this. During the winter competitions, the players along with the official staff are taken to Auli through this ropeway.
