Portals of Gangotri closed for winters

Today, on the holy festival of Annakut, the valleys of the Gangotri temple are closed for the winter. Gangotri Temple Committee Chairman Suresh Semwal said that the process of closing the doors of Gangotri Temple started at 8.30 am.

A special puja was performed after Mahabhishekha was performed with Veda mantras. The temple doors were closed at 11.40 am after the puja. After this, the idol of Ganga ji was left for Mukhba with a doli yatra at 11.55 am.

The Doli Yatra will take a night’s rest at the Devi temple near Mukhba Markandeya and on Tuesday the idol of the mother Ganga will be placed in the Ganga temple at Mukhba. At the same time, the doors of Yamunotri Temple will be closed for winter tomorrow on Bhaiyuduj.

On October 29, the doors of Kedarnath Dham will be closed at 8:30 am on Tuesday. After this, Baba’s Doli will be taken to Rampur first stop. The doors of the Badrinath temple are to close on 17 November. With this the Chardham Yatra for the 2019 season will end.

This time a record number of pilgrims arrived

This time Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham witnessed a record number of pilgrims due to increasing faith in people towards Char Dham Yatra and good round trip arrangements.

From the past years till now, the highest number of 9,47,259 pilgrims reached these shrines in the year 2011, while this time 9,93,314 pilgrims have visited Yamunotri and Gangotri three days before the closure of the kapat. It has 5,27,742 passengers Gangotri and 4,65,572 pilgrims reached Yamunotri. In between, there was a huge drop in travel after the disaster of 2012-13.
