Nobel Prize 2019: Award for Medicine announced

The Nobel Prize in medicine has been announced. American scientists William Kaelin, Gregg Semenza and Britain’s Peter Ratcliffe have been announced for the Nobel in medicine. The three scientists will be jointly honored with the prestigious Nobel 2019 honor.

The award will be given to all three scientists for their significant contribution to life in cells and their ability to absorb oxygen. The Nobel Assembly stated, ‘This year’s Nobel Prize winners have discovered one of life’s most essential processes. They gave us a basis to understand how oxygen levels affect cellular metabolism and physiological functions. Their discoveries have paved the way for working on new strategies to fight anemia, cancer and many other diseases.’

The Nobel Week has started after the announcement of the Nobel Prize in the medical field. This will be followed by the Nobel Physics Prize on Tuesday and the award for Chemistry the following day. Whereas on Thursday, two Nobel Prizes will be given for literature. The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday.
