IRCTC set for a name change

All are familiar with the name of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in the country. The online portal provides train tickets through its site. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal wants to rename it. He wants to give it such a name which is small and eye-catching, that is to be remembered quickly and is easy to speak in the name. Goyal has given the responsibility of suggesting the IRCTC’s new name to the Railway officers. According to Zee Biz, the minister said that people often mispronounce the IRCTC name.

IRCTC Site name will change for the first time

This will be the first time that the railway ministry will change the name of the IRCTC. Earlier this year, IRCTC had floated ‘Coin a New Name’ contest. This contest came on mygov.in. It was asked to give new names for ITCTC. In this nearly 1852 people gave new names. A senior IRCTC official said that the first level committee has selected about 700 names. This list is now sent to the second level committee which will choose a new name. The result of the contest was to be announced on July 15 but the date has passed. According to the officer, in two months IRCTC will get a new name. The winner of the contest will get one lakh rupees reward.

Winner to win a contest will get one lakh prize

The official told that when the contest was started on mygov.in website, people took part in it with great enthusiasm. In the contest, it was told that the winning person will get one lakh rupees in the prize. The name of the contest was ‘Coin a New Name’. About 5.73 lakh tickets are booked every day from this site. There are about 30 million users registered on this site. IRCTC has made a lot of changes recently on its website. These include the IRCTC Next Generation e-ticketing system.
