Government targets 1.85 lakh tonnes of wheat procurement from Kumaon this season

Government procurement of 1.85 lakh metric tonnes of wheat will be made from Kumaon in the upcoming Rabi procurement season. This is five times more than in Garhwal. 194 purchasing centers will be built in Kumaon for wheat procurement. The purchase will start from April 1 and continue till May 15. If needed, it can be extended till June 30.

There are purchasing centers in Udham Singh Nagar in Kumaon, Terai in Champawat district along with Nainital district. 158 procurement centers have been set up in Udham Singh Nagar district, 36 in Nainital and Champawat districts. Kumaon has the maximum 138 purchasing centers of the State Cooperative Marketing Association. Apart from this, there are 30 food supply departments, seven National Consumer Cooperative Union of India (NCCF), 19 procurement centers of NAFED. Farmers will have to register on the e-procurement portal. Selected institutions will be able to purchase only from registered farmers.

More than eight lakh sacks distributed

Preparations have started at the purchasing centers for wheat procurement. RFC Kumaon LM Rayal informed that 8.50 lakh bags have been made available to the purchasing centers. Any other requirement will also be fulfilled.

Increase in support price in the interest of farmers

The government has fixed the support price of wheat at Rs 1975 per quintal. This is 50 rupees more than the previous year. Apart from this, the state government will give a bonus of 20 rupees.
