13 dead in airstrikes in Afghanistan

At least 13 civilians were killed in an air strike by international forces at the end of last week in the town of Kunduj in North Afghanistan, which includes most children.

The United Nations said on Monday that the attack took place on late Friday between late night and Saturday morning. This attack was carried out in support of the ground operations being run by the government pro-active forces fighting against the Taliban militants in the area.

In a statement, the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan said, “Initial investigation indicates that there are 10 children killed, they were part of the extended family, which were displaced due to conflict at other places in the country.”

America is the only member of the International Coalition in Afghanistan who provides air support in the conflict. A NATO spokesman said that the coalition is investigating claims.
