EC takes action after Amit Shah’s road show; campaigning to end early in WB

Election Commission has taken a big decision after the controversy surrounding BJP’s Amit Shah Road Show in West Bengal. The Commission has taken big action today and removed the state’s Home Secretary and Principal Secretary. Election Commission has taken action against many officials of West Bengal. ADG CID Rajiv Kumar was removed and sent to the Home Ministry. Principal Secretary, Health Secretary was also removed from his post. Responsibility of the Home Department given to the Chief Secretary.

At the same time, the Election Commission has reduced the time for the last phase of campaigning in West Bengal. The ban has been imposed from 10 am onwards. In view of the violence in the state, the Election Commission has used Article 324.

In the last phase, elections will be held in 9 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bengal. It includes Dumdum, Barasat, Bashirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurpur, Jadavpur, Diamond Harbor, South and North Kolkata.

It is worth mentioning that in Kolkata on Tuesday, the BJP president Amit Shah’s roadshow has caused waves from West Bengal to Delhi. Due to this ruckus, the TMC and BJP’s clash has reached a serious turn before the last phase of voting. Where Mamata Banerjee has blamed the BJP for violence, the BJP has demanded the Ban on the campaigning of Mamata from the Election Commission.

FIR against Amit Shah in two police stations

In the roadshow of BJP President Amit Shah’s in Vidyasagar College, after the protests and the demolition of the statue of Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, students have registered two FIRs against unknown people, including Amit Shah in two police stations. Police have started the proceedings after registering a case in non-bailable streams. So far, 58 BJP supporters have been arrested in this case.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Dr. Rajesh Kumar has said that the police is committed to taking concrete action in this incident. On the other hand, in the FIR filed against him, Amit Shah said that the BJP is not afraid.

Opposition protested by taking out procession

On Wednesday, a procession led by CPI (M) and other Left parties led to protest against breaking of the statue of Amit Shah’s road show and the demolition of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar statue. Violence and sabotage were condemned by the Left parties by removing protest marches from College Square to Haidua. At the same time the Leftists were asked to investigate the entire matter to ascertain the real facts behind the incident.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, senior party leader Prakash Karat, state CPI secretary Suryakant Mishra, Left Front chairman Biman Bose and Sujan Chakraborty were present. While addressing the media workers Yechury said that the statue has been broken down under a thoughout plan. In such a situation, strict action should be taken against those responsible by identifying the accused.
