Monsoon 2019: Orange alert issued in Uttarakhand

Due to heavy rains, the Kali river in Dharchula has reached the danger mark. The people who live in the vicinity areas of the stormy river Kali river are in panic. In Jhulaghat, people from Taleshwar, Githigada, Kanadi, Batthi, and Targaon have been appealed not to go to the river banks. The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warning in nine districts too.

Tanakpur-Pithoragarh NH due to construction work, sludge and debris, has been jam for about four hours at different times. Dhunaghat-Barmaula road, which was closed on Tuesday, could not be re-opened on Wednesday. The Kotbaag-Bansi road in Kotbag block has been closed with the debris near Salua village. Due to this the vehicles were stuck on both sides. With the closure of the road, the villagers’ vegetable and the products too could not reach the vegetable market.

Heavy rain alert today in nine districts

There may be very heavy rains on Thursday in nine districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued instructions to carry additional alert and take extra precautions. According to the Bulletin released by the Meteorological Department, heavy rains can occur in the districts of Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Tehri, Pauri and Haridwar along with the capital Dehradun. In other parts of the state, there is also cloudburst and rain forecast. In most areas, there can be sharp showers with thunder and rains.

The Meteorological Center has issued heavy rain warnings in most areas of the state till July 15. Also people have been advised to take extra precautions by issuing advisory. The Meteorological Department has expressed apprehensions of landslides in mountainous areas during this period. At the same time, movement of tourists has been restricted in the Himalaya region. Meteorological director Bikram Singh said that the current season will remain in the state till July 19.

Due to the heavy rains that took place on Wednesday morning, a lot of debris from the mountain collapsed on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. The movement of vehicles on the highway completely stalled. Locals said that JCB, which arrived after two hours after which the debris could be cleared. After that, the movement of vehicles on the highway was restored at around 10 o’clock.
