Double lane ring road to encircle Tehri lake

The Uttarakhand government has started an exercise to build a ring road around the Tehri Lake. Under this, a 234.6 km long double lane ring road will be built at a cost of Rs 335 crore on the bank of the lake spread over an area of ​​42 sq km.

Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh held a meeting with officials on Thursday to develop the Tehri reservoir in terms of tourism. In which instructions were given for immediate land acquisition and completion of forest land transfer and other works.

In a meeting held at the Secretariat, Secretary Tourism Dilip Javalkar said that in review of the Chief Minister’s announcements, the tourism department has received instructions to construct a ring road around the Tehri lake. Due to the absence of a ring road, the infrastructure required for tourism development is not being developed.
Pilgrims visiting Chardham Yatra will also be able to use the ring road. Javalkar informed that the assistance of subject experts of Asian Development Bank is being taken to develop facilities at various places in the proposed ring road.

It is proposed to be funded from ADB. Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Hariom Sharma said that the total length of the proposed ring road is 234.60 km. Whose 142.20 km section is built single lane, 38.40 km 1.5 lane. A single lane is under construction for 18 km in length and a single lane is to be constructed in 16 km length.

Along with this, 20 km of the road is under construction under the Chardham road. 4 bridges will also be constructed in the proposed route. The cost of the first phase of the proposed work is Rs 8.81 crore and in the second phase, an estimate of Rs 326.14 crore has been prepared. The Tehri lake was formed when the old town of Tehri was submerged after the operations of Tehri Dam commenced.
