World Test Championships 2023: Ishan Kishan named as replacement for KL Rahul

Indian selectors have announced KL Rahul’s replacement for the World Test Championship 2023 final. Ishan Kishan has been included in the team in place of Rahul. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav have been selected as standby players. Fast bowlers Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav are also injured. The BCCI medical team is monitoring the injury of both. The Indian team will take on Australia in the final match to be held from June 7 to 11. This match will be played at The Oval in England.

Team India currently has only one wicketkeeper KS Bharat. Rahul also does the keeping, but he is not in the team. In such a situation, Ishan has been selected as an additional wicket-keeper batsman. Kishan has a lot of experience in first class cricket. The left-handed batsman has scored 2985 runs in 48 first-class matches at an average of 38.76. Kishan is yet to play in a Test match. He was selected for the series against Australia, but he could not join the playing-11.

Runners-up last time

The Indian team has reached the final of the World Test Championship for the second time in a row. They last faced defeat in 2021 against New Zealand in the title match. Team India performed brilliantly in the 2021-23 season of the Test Championship. They finished second in the points table behind Australia.

Rahul injured in IPL

Rahul was injured in the IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore while playing for Lucknow Super Giants. He then ruled himself out of the rest of the IPL and the World Test Championship final. The Indian team management is looking for a replacement for Rahul. Team India will miss Rahul in the final match. He batted well in the last Test series in England. He was the third highest run scorer for the team. Rahul had scored 315 runs.
